Sharing Files Externally with Egnyte
Egnyte provides users the opportunity to share folders with external users and clients, which is especially helpful when trying to share large files.
When sharing folders outside of the organization, you can only share from the “External” folder within a project and through the WebUI of Egnyte.
A few things to know:
- You cannot copy or move an existing FOLDERS into the “External” folder. The permissions will not follow, and your clients will not be able to view the files. You must create new folders directly within the “External” folder and move your files there.
- You can copy or move existing FILES into the “External” folder, which will properly retain their permissions and be available to the client. You can also upload new files directly to the “External” folder.
- You can send the whole “External” folder or individual files within this folder.
- You can send multiple files by selecting only the ones you need to share within this folder.
To share a file or folder:
- Inside the “External” folder, select the file or folder you want to share.
- Select “Share” from the menu on the right.
- Click “Share Link.”

- In the popup window, set the options you want for Notifications and whether to include the Folder Name:
- Choose either Email Link to automatically open up an email window or Get Share Link to copy the link and information to paste where you wish and send to your client.
