Windows Update Process
Starting Monday, April 29, 2024, we will be changing the way we manage Windows Updates on our computers. Previously, these updates were pushed out only on the first Tuesday of every month. Going forward, we are enabling the automatic download and installation of Windows Updates as they become available from Microsoft.
Windows updates are essential for keeping your computer secure and up to date. They fix bugs, patch vulnerabilities, improve performance, and add new features. Without them, your computer may become unstable, slow, or be exposed to cyberattacks.
Once these updates hit your device, you'll start to see notifications similar to the one below:

As shown in the screenshot, you'll be given the option to reboot when you see the notification or to schedule the reboot for a future time, along with an estimate of how long the reboot will take. There are deadlines set that only allow you to delay the restart and installation of these updates for a set period of time before your computer will automatically restart to complete the updates: 7 days for the majority of standard updates and 15 days for larger OS Feature updates that come 1-2 times a year.
Please reach out to me if you have any questions on this change. We look forward to improving the update process for our devices and providing a better security stance for the company!
